Eyelid surgery is performed to correct the skin that has become slackened, saggy, and wrinkled over time.
This operation, also known as a blepharoplasty, is the most commonly requested cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States at the present time. Often, the operation is performed to correct the slackened skin from years of exposure to the sun, the excess skin after a significant loss of weight, and the excessive fat under the skin folds leading to "bags under the eyes."
The procedure of the upper eyelids is achieved by the surgical removal of excess skin and fatty tissue through incisions in the middle of the eyelids. In the lower eyelids, this procedure is performed through incisions along the lash lines, or along the lining of the inner side of the eyelids.
Often, a blepharoplasty may be performed along with other cosmetic surgical procedures, such as a facelift or browlift. The eyebrows may be sagging and may give a tired appearance to the face, and this correction gives a more youthful appearance to the eyes.
This operation is commonly performed by Dr. Ariyan either under local anesthesia, or general anesthesia in the outpatient setting. Following surgery, you will be awakening in the recovery room before being discharged to your home or to a medical hotel room.
At the time of your initial office consultation visit, Dr. Ariyan will be listening to you about your wishes and expectations. He will be discussing the procedure in greater detail, and explaining the risks and complications which you should consider.
