Surgery of the nose is performed to correct the size, shape, and appearance of the bridge, dome, and tip.
The operation, also known as a rhinoplasty, is the second most commonly requested cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States at the present time. This operation is performed to correct and readjust the supporting bones and cartilages, either reducing or building up these structures, to reshape the nose. Sometimes, the septum may be corrected, and cartilage grafts may be placed to enlarge the airway and improve the breathing.
The rhinoplasty is performed through surgical incisions along the lining inside the nose. In addition, a small incision may be added along the surface of the skin, under the nose between the nostrils, to reshape the tip of the nose under direct vision. After completing the operation, a splint is applied to the outer surface of the nose for about one week to support the bones and cartilages while they are healing.
This operation is commonly performed by Dr. Ariyan under local anesthesia or general anesthesia in the outpatient setting. Following surgery, you will be awakening in the recovery room before being discharged to your home.
At the time of your initial office consultation visit, Dr. Ariyan will be listening to you about your wishes and expectations. He will be discussing the procedure in greater detail, and explaining the risks and complications which you should consider.
