Breast reconstructive surgery is performed to restore the missing breast as a result of mastectomy for cancer.
There are several options available to be considered by the patient in consultation with the surgeons. Once the patient has decided to proceed with reconstruction, she needs to decide whether she wishes to have the reconstruction performed with the placement of a prosthetic implant placed behind the chest muscle, or with the use of only soft tissues brought from the back of the chest or from the abdomen.
After the breast reconstruction has had the opportunity to heal, a nipple can be reconstructed at a later time.
This operation is performed by Dr. Ariyan under general anesthesia. Following surgery, you will be awakening in the recovery room before being returned to your hospital room, or discharged to a medical hotel room or to your home.
At the time of your initial office consultation visit, Dr. Ariyan will be listening to you about your wishes and expectations. He will be discussing the procedure options in greater detail, and explaining the risks and complications which you should consider.
