      Cancer of the oropharyngeal area has long been an area of interest among plastic surgeons. Many of the most advanced reconstructive techniques in the management of the patient with cancer of the head and neck were developed by Dr. Ariyan, and published in several medical journals and textbooks.

    There has been a long history of collaboration with the otolaryngologists, oral surgeons, radiation therapists, medical oncologists, and speech therapists in the management of advanced cancers. Also, Dr. Ariyan participates with the Head and Neck Cancer team at Yale that over the past several years, has evolved a more conservative, non-surgical management of the cancers of the larynx in order to preserve speech and function.
